Suite Talk - Grand Hotel Zermatterhof

Staying in a suite always feels a little like moving into a brand-new home. Small, yes. Temporary, yes. But entirely yours. And best of all, without the planning or the headaches over big questions and tiny details. No delays, no years of waiting. Someone has already arranged everything, planned it all, and executed it to perfection.

With the finest, warmest materials and every amenity thoughtfully in place, it’s all there. Not for just anyone — no, for me. The guest. The most important person in this house. That feeling alone is the very definition of luxury.

Of course, a suite is not a private holiday home, which might be even more luxurious but feels anonymous. Here at the Zermatterhof, your stay begins at the station with a royal welcome. A horse-drawn carriage takes you gracefully through the streets. Then, a ceremonial reception and a heartfelt greeting. Someone escorts you upstairs and even opens the door for you. You can’t help but widen your eyes and nod approvingly. Thank you, yes. Beautiful. Perfect. Then the door closes and you discover yet another intimate welcome gesture: a handwritten card expressing joy and anticipation, pralines, macarons, fresh fruit, and a bottle of wine. Already, you feel like never want to leave.

The first rituals are sacred. Just like setting up a new apartment, you unpack immediately. Book, glasses, and water on the bedside table – nothing more. The rest tucked away in drawers. Sunglasses with a magazine on the desk next to the laptop. Sports sunglasses and swim goggles neatly placed in the wardrobe, each shelf with the corresponding gear for skiing, hiking, or swimming.

Then comes the test nap – no matter the time of day. The king-size bed embraces me with warmth. It will be savoured several times a day – not just at night. The finest linens, the softest pillows. And that scent of Swiss pine. It is said to calm, ease sleep, lower stress. The essential oils in the wood’s resin are antibacterial, may reduce allergies, and even slow the heartbeat. Yes, sleep will be deep and restorative in the Chalet Suite Matterhorn. Its alpine charm embraces me. A quick check of tomorrow’s sunrise and the alarm is set. This moment must not be missed – when the first light awakens the Matterhorn. So close and radiant, one more majestic welcoming gift in this home away from home – unforgettable forever.

3 reasons to leave the suite:

1 – Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni

Since July 2025, top chef Stefan Lünse has led the kitchen of the Zermatterhof’s gourmet restaurant. His refined cuisine celebrates regional identity by combining local ingredients with international elegance, lightness, and creative depth.

2 – Vita Borni Alpine Wellness

From winter 2025, a completely new spa invites guests to relax and recharge, with a modern fitness centre, a 17-metre indoor pool, two jacuzzis with Matterhorn views, a sauna, sanarium, steam bath, luxury showers, and an ice fountain.

3 – Matterhorn Art and Cigar Lounge

Wandering leisurely through the historic hotel is a pleasure in itself. Impressive Matterhorn images line every floor. Afterwards, the cigar lounge is the perfect place to let your thoughts drift.

I have had a new tax advisor since last year. His name is Sepp, and he was a serendipitous find. Meeting him electrified me. Not because he charges about a tenth of what I used to pay for having my tax return completed, but because he is someone who has found his calling: he loves what he does. And it is exactly what gets him out of bed in the morning.
